From the conception of our products to our ‘Second Chance’ service, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact while helping to preserve forests and biodiversity through the Maisons du Monde Foundation.

Our product commitments

By prioritising the use of recycled, certified or organic materials, as well as European manufacturing, we ensure that we minimise our impact on the environment:

  • Recycled materials enable waste to be reused and help to minimise the impacts associated with the extraction of virgin materials.
  • Materials certified by recognised labels or organisations guarantee the sustainable management of natural resources or manufacturing processes.
  • Organic materials are sourced from crops grown without GMOs and without synthetic chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers).
  • Manufacturing in Europe (the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway or Switzerland) supports local industry whilst reducing transport-related CO₂ emissions and optimising logistics flows.

This approach is gaining momentum: nearly 40% of our offering incorporates at least one of these commitments in the Autumn/Winter 2026 collection.

More circularity with Seconde chance

To offer an alternative to buying a new product and to combat waste, we launched Second Chance in 2023 in all our shops, followed by an online launch in 2024. This programme aims to promote slightly damaged furniture and homeware – sourced from customer returns or in-store display models – to our customers, with discounts ranging from 30% to 60%. More than 800,000 products have already been sold through ‘Seconde chance’ since its launch.

To extend the life of our products and enhance their social impact, we have set up a dedicated centre for the repair and reconditioning of our products in Saint-Martin de Crau. More than 53,000 products are reconditioned or repaired each year in our workshop by our wood, textile and leather experts, before being put back on sale.

Products that could not be repaired are donated to social enterprises specialising in re-use (Emmaus and the French Red Cross), with whom we have partnerships, to support the professional integration of their employees.

Our actions to protect the environment

To go further, the Maisons du Monde Foundation supports associations that protect trees and forests by worked closely with local communities wherever urgent action is needed. Since its creation in 2015, 9.6 million euros have already been donated to 68 community projects around the world.
Its support has also helped to preserve 236,000 hectares of forest (equivalent to the size of Luxembourg) and to plant 7.6 million trees.

Since 2017, our partnership with microDON has enabled our customers to get directly involved in this initiative by rounding up the total amount of their purchases at the till. Their generosity has already enabled us to donate nearly 3.5 million euros to the associations supported by the Maisons du Monde Foundation.

Maisons du Monde Foundation
Reducing our environmental impact

In 2025, we reached a key milestone: our CO₂ emission reduction targets for 2030 were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), a leading international organisation that ensures they are aligned with the Paris Agreement and the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

In concrete terms, by 2030, compared with the 2021 baseline year, we aim to achieve:

  • a 49.6% reduction in CO₂ emissions from our direct and energy-related activities (Scope 1 and 2)
  • a 25% reduction in CO₂ emissions from indirect sources linked to the activities of our service providers and suppliers (Scope 3)
To support this transition, our teams work every day to reduce our environmental footprint by improving our practices: the manufacture and transport of our products, waste management, energy consumption in our shops, and so on.

We have also rolled out a CSR ambassador network across all our shops, with one designated ambassador per shop. On a day-to-day basis, they implement practical measures to reduce our environmental impact, communicate our initiatives and encourage the sharing of best practice between shops.
